Hi, I’m Megan Harvey.

I’m a certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, as well as a 500 hour Yoga Alliance certified instructor teaching throughout the Los Angeles area (and now worldwide on Zoom!).

I was born and raised in beautiful rural Montana, and moved to Los Angeles to attend USC. I began my teaching journey 10 years ago in 2011, under the guidance of Alexandria Crow. I’ve also studied Iyengar Yoga with Tulsi Laher, Chris Stein, and Carmen Fitzgibbon, among others. Although I originally began as a Hatha yoga teacher, my passion for alignment, deep exploration of postures, and use of props to enhance poses and accommodate all challenge levels eventually led me to the Iyengar practice.

I’m deeply passionate about making yoga welcoming and accessible to all students. My greatest wish is to give my students the joy that yoga has given to me.

Yoga for Children

I found my passion for fitness and self-expression at the age of 3, when I became enthralled with ballet and my pink sequined tutu. I found a subsequent passion for instruction just a few years later when my younger sister was finally old enough to attend my at home ballet “classes.” I continued dancing well into college, but after a knee injury kept me away from ballet, I discovered another form of exercise: yoga. Yoga resonated with me immediately and deeply.

I’m passionate about embracing all of the wonderful curiosity, joy, and creativity innate to children in my classes. Through specialized trainings and apprenticeships under several talented children’s yoga teachers, I embarked on my own journey teaching yoga to children. My style of children’s yoga centers around play, exploration, and connection:  engaging children in the magical world of yoga adventures. My classes also include breathing, meditation, and calming techniques to help children handle difficult emotions, stress, and find some yoga “zen”.  I teach at preschools and after-school programs around the Los Angeles area, and at Zooga Yoga, where I am the Creative Director of Yoga.

What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar yoga is a system of yoga based on the teaching of B.K.S. Iyengar. Known for detailed anatomical instruction, carefully crafted progression of asanas (poses), and use of props to support correct alignment, Iyengar yoga is accessible to all regardless of physical limitations and age. At the heart of the Iyengar practice lies a focus on gradual and sustainable results, rather than quick and temporary reward. Iyengar teachers undergo a rigorous multi-year training and evaluation to earn their certifications.
